SURFACES

My current interests are in spiritual healing and the divine connection nature has to our souls. An ongoing project of mine is called “Surfaces” and is comprised of a collection of paintings, along with some drawings that portray abstract representations juxtaposed with photorealism imagery. This series of paintings began as a dedication to my experience of learning to heal from loss and move forward as I navigate through life. These works are inspired by the idea of what is interpreted from looking at surfaces and, most importantly, what really exists within the depths. Therefore, works in this series are interpretations of surfaces found at the source of healing: on, near and under water.

My art is the manifestation of the efforts made to live in the present, and the reflection of my own experiences from spiritual inner work. “Surfaces” aims to bespeak experiences with mental health, acting as a conduit for growth. 

“Surfaces” portrays the subject of water created with lines to further explore concepts of movement within self built structures, and how sacred living in the present is. Almost every painting contains gilding, symbolising the divinity in healing. Like life, the motion of water is constant and impossible to control. Despite its erratic nature, its reliability for healing is known by all.

In between calmness, I attempt to cope with life by searching for consistency, and trying to build structures around what cannot be conformed. I’ve exhausted myself in the attempts to constantly adapt, but I can rely on the sea for a regularity that I can understand without the monotony I fear so deeply. I watch water and paint what speaks to me as an alternative of living on the surface and resisting what is natural. My art practice is the reflection of a conscious choice to step away from mundanity and towards the flow of my own consistent rhythm.
